About

After a 3 1/2 yr stint in San Francisco, Mama Jen lives in Madison with her husband, 2 yr old daughter and 5 1/2 yr old dog son. She is a self-proclaimed product junkie, spa treatment/beauty product snob and film lover/occasional maker. She loves writing this blog with her good friend and partner in web crime, Kate. She is passionate about organics, trying to go “green,” finding the next hot restaurant, and red wine. She has been known to kick gossip mags under the couch like a dirty secret before guests arrive… Contact at MamaJen@momappeal.com

Mama Kate has been a professional award-winning magazine editor and writer for the past 15 years. Currently she’s on “break” (can you really call it that when kids 19 months apart are involved?) as a freelancer and an at-home mom to daughter Shane, 3, and son Levi, 1. She’s psyched about flexing her editorial muscles and having some fun with MomAppeal. A happy modernist at heart (ahhh, Dwell magazine, now that showcases her ideal kind of living … ), she’s taken with functional and sustainable design that’s hip and clever and makes life easier, or at least a little more interesting, and she digs styles with retro flair (that is, except for anything that has to do with the ’80s bad fashion … ). When she’s not crazed at home, Mama Kate and husband, Tim, love to continue their old (read: pre-kid) ways and travel (with or without the tinies in tow) and seek out good eats and unique culinary experiences. She loves that daughter Shane is as smitten with cooking shows and puttering with recipes as she is, and hopes to be grooming another foodie in the family. Sleeping in’s tops on the list, too, but these days doesn’t get much billing.

Mama Jess lives in Madison, WI with her husband and 2 year old son. Primarily, she is a stay at home mom, but also runs two businesses from home in addition to writing and editing MomAppeal with her good mom friend and partner in antics, Jenny. In her spare time, Jess likes to knit, organize social outings, and read gossip blogs. She is known for her over the top knowledge of pop culture, and has absolutely no talent for cleaning. ( Mama Jess began MomAppeal with Mama Jen but is busy with her job and family, so she now relaxes and reads MomAppeal when she has the chance!)

As the writers of the popular and informative parenting blog, Mom Appeal, I thought you might be interested in a NEW book, Healthy Child Healthy World: Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home by Christopher Gavigan, CEO of the nation’s leading nonprofit for children’s environmental health – Healthy Child Healthy World / http://www.healthychild.org.

In a time where more than 125 million Americans, especially children, face a historically unprecedented rise in chronic disease and illness such as cancer, autism, asthma, birth defects, ADD / ADHD, and learning and developmental disabilities, it is important for everyone to begin looking for preventative measures and daily solutions to keep children and families safe and healthy. This book will act as an essential playbook for parents to create a healthy, nontoxic, and environmentally sound home.

Building on the credible science and easy solutions, what sets this book apart are the long list of health experts and notable parents contributing their voices/essays. These contributing “voices” and stories are selectively added to the book to build on the approachable and fresh tone. Contributing folks include Meryl Streep (writing the foreword), Gwyneth Paltrow, Bill McDonough, Tom Hanks, Dr. Phil Landrigan, Tobey Maguire, Dr. Sandra Steingraber, Laura Dern, Dr. Alan Greene, Courteney Cox, Vanessa Williams, Erin Brockovich, Dr. Harvey Karp, Keri Russell, Brooke Shields, Dr. David Orr, Michelle Obama, Dr. Theo Colborn, Sheryl Crow, Gayle King and a quite a few more.

Because of the synergy between your topics and our organization, we would be grateful if you would write a review of the book on your blog. If you agree, please respond and we will quickly send out a copy of the book for your review.

    Warm wishes,

    Meg Leidy
